Join the York County Literacy Council as its Buck A Book® Reading Program kicks off Jan. 21, rewarding readers with prizes and raising funds for YCLC.
York County residents of all ages can obtain sponsors, who pledge to donate a certain amount based on the number of books read during the program, which runs Jan. 21-27.
Funds raised benefit the council, which provides literacy classes and tutoring for adults — native born as well as English as a second language students — in York County. In 2011/2012, the council served 909 students with 321 volunteers providing more than 12,259 hours of service.
Prizes are as follows:
- For raising $2, the participant earns a McDonald’s Mighty Kid’s Meal
- For raising $15, the participant earns a skate pass and skate rental at York City Ice Arena
- For raising $50,the participant earns two York Revolution Baseball Tickets (field box seats) and a LED mini flashlight
- For raising $85, the participant earns an AvalancheXpress/Ballocity (Bogey Macaws) ticket
- For raising $150, the participant earns a Sansa Clip Zip MP3 Player
- For raising $250, the participant earns two tickets (one adult and one child) to Hershey Park
