Last week I received a phone call from Cathy Johnson of York, who shared a bit about an event she’d planned in January.

Having met several local women diagnosed with lupus, Johnson wanted to learn more about the disease. So she contact Liz Shaw-Stabler, author of the recently released “Living With the Wolf and Surviving Lupus.”

Shaw-Stabler held a book signing and talk on lupus at the Out Door Country Club on Jan. 26, with about 25 women and one man in attendance, Johnson said.

“The word ‘lupus’ in Latin means wolf, hence the name of the book, ‘Living With the Wolf,'” Johnson explained in an email. Shaw-Stabler shared about her journey and her coping skills.

In addition to her writing, Shaw-Stabler is also the founder and executive director of the Center for Lupus Care, Inc. Visit or email with questions.
