Celebrate Jewish Book Month and knock out holiday shopping at the same time — the York Jewish Community Center will host a “Thanksgivukkah” brunch with local authors at 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 24.
Local writer Georg Sheets will facilitate a panel discussion with four local authors:
- Tina Kane, Windsor Township author of “Your Life Is My Inspiration,” memoirs of her mother’s life as Ukraine immigrant
- Marvin Simkins, York Township author of “The Best 90-Plus Years of My Life,” a memoir of his time serving in World War II and after
- Robin Spielberg, a New Freedom author of “Naked On the Bench,” a memoir of her career and life as a pianist and composer
- Judy Wolfman, a Springettsbury Township author of “Not My Time,” a part-fiction, part-biography based on the life of former Yorker and Holocaust survivor Nessy Marks
The authors will be available to sign their books after the discussion, as well. Reservations for the $10 catered brunch, due by Nov. 18, can be made by calling the York JCC at 717-843-0918.
After the brunch on Nov. 24, a free book fair will be open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. at the JCC, 2000 Hollywood Drive, York Township.
“It’s the JCC’s Chanukah gift to the community,” said Linda Seligson, cultural and contemporary adult director, in a release. “We have hundreds of wonderful books in a variety of genres ranging from cheery children’s tales through volumes about the Holocaust.”
