About this blog
What do book lovers enjoy almost as much as reading a book? Talking about it, of course! A group of us here at the Daily Record/Sunday News has decided to take our book talk beyond the newsroom.
We'll share what we like, and what we don't, about the books we are reading. We'll recommend the best paperback to tote to the beach and which new mystery to curl up with on a rainy day. This will also be the place to learn the latest news from the world of book publishing and what's doing with local writers.
Join the fun. We want to hear from you too. E-mail your book review to schain@ydr.com and we will post it on Book Buzz.

Cooking: books and blogs
I love cookbooks. That isn’t to say I like to cook, I’m more of a baker than a cook. But I love looking at cookbooks, especially ones with glossy photographs. My favorite section to hang out in at libraries and … Continue reading

An interesting survey
Publishers Weekly recently asked children’s booksellers to choose their favorite — and sometimes not so favorite — books of 2008. There were a few surprises for me in their choices.
Ravenous reader
I think I would call myself that. I know that’s what my family thinks I am. But, I was in New York this past weekend and I didn’t open a book. That isn’t to say I didn’t read anything.

I want to read a book NOW
This isn’t a book review per se, but rather a longing for books you want to read.

It’s a generational thing
I’m talking about the Internet. People who have grown up with the Internet, as opposed to people like me who had to “learn” it, are much more likely to turn to the web in all things. This was illustrated to … Continue reading

I read a really interesting book this week
It was “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” by Brian Selznick. Now, don’t be put off when I tell you it’s considered a children’s book. And, don’t be put off when I tell you it’s 544 pages! Most of those pages … Continue reading

My first foray into inspirational reading
Several people I know told me I must read “The Shack” by William Young. I had seen it in all the stores and knew it was a best-seller. I’m always up for the latest in book trends, so obliged them.

Cats vs Dogs
For the first part of my life I was a cat person. I enjoyed their independence and their superior attitude to all. Then, five years ago my daughter brought home a puppy. It was the classic “isn’t he cute, can … Continue reading
