YAY for my world!

OK, so I have to brag a little bit. Sorry, just gotta do it. For the second time in a decade, the York Daily Record/Sunday News has been named Newspaper of the Year. (Happy dance).

Each year, the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association Foundation recognizes one newspaper in the state for excellence in categories ranging from news coverage to promotion to advertising. So big congrats to my colleagues who work hard every day to make us the best across the board.

I’m also super psyched because this blog, Buffy’s World, and its extensions were part of the first place in Readership Initiative Award we received. This is another huge award that recognizes innovative initiatives to create new audiences. My colleague and super blogger, Joan Concilio (of Ask Joan fame) was the other half of this entry.

In addition to these two awards, we also brought home a Public Service Award for our series “Fat Battleground: Obesity in York County.” I’m super proud of this award and of my reporters who worked so hard to make this series a must-read.

And I must also salute my friend and colleague Scott Fisher (Daily Record/Sunday News Viewpoints and Opinion editor) for winning the William A. Schnader Print Media Award for two commentaries he wrote that focused on Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition and police officers, and the Westboro Baptist Church.

Don’t forget to visit me at Buffy’s Write Zone and Smart magazine.
