Civil War and More is a retail store in downtown Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Located at 10 S. Market Street, it's an easy drive from central or northern York County. The store has an interesting selection, which ranges from neckties to books of all sorts to ship models. Owner Jim Schmick is a long-time fixture in Harrisburg-area Civil War circles, and store manager Jack Thomas I first met when I spoke at the Hershey Civil War Round Table three or four years ago.
Jack Thomas poses by some of the store's many books. He has worked there for more than seven years, and is always willing to share his Civil War expertise with shoppers. On this day, your Cannonball editor was an interested bystander in a conversation with a client who was purchasing some of Mark Nesbitt's very popular Ghosts of Gettysburg books.
The store is small, but packed with interesting things to browse or buy. Located less than a block from Main Street, it is on the old York Road / Market Street, which leads through Siddonsburg in northern York County to Route 74 north of Wellsville.
Hey, the store is classy - they carry a complete line of books from Colecraft Industries, including my first three book on human interest stories from Gettysburg and Antietam.
