Hillary Clinton visit

Boy, that didn't take long! The morning after my last blog entry, where I mentioned that local Democrats are hoping for candidate visits, I pick up the paper and read that Hillary Clinton is coming to Harrisburg on Tuesday.

And yes, I plan to be there. I still need to work out the details with my editors and Clinton's campaign representatives.

But my plan is to bring along my camcorder, and maybe post some video of local Democrats at the rally on this blog. I'm not making any promises. I'll need to figure out how to do that tomorrow, and I am not good with technology. If any of my coworkers are reading this, I'm just warning you. There will be enough swear words emanating from my cubicle to fill several seasons' worth of Sopranos screenplays.

I spoke to a representative of Clinton's Pennsylvania campaign this evening, and he said he wouldn't rule out a Clinton appearance in York County before this is over. If it happens, expect to read all about it here.

By the way, I was impressed that I was able to reach that campaign representative on a Sunday evening. Over the years, I've dealt with a lot of national campaign workers from both parties, and I've got to hand it to them. Say what you will about them, you can't fault them for lack of a work ethic.

By most people's standards, journalists tend to be high-strung stress junkies. But we're a bunch of Buddhist monks compared to some of these campaign workers. At the height of the campaigns, they put in some insane hours under some very stressful conditions.

And I'm sure that workers in both the Clinton and Obama campaigns are guzzling some industrial-strength coffee tonight. If I didn't know already, I would have been able to tell that the Clinton/Obama campaigns are planning to hit Pennsylvania hard as soon as I got into work at 3 p.m. today. (I'm temporarily filling in on the Sunday night shift for an injured colleague. Get well soon, Michele! I think I'm really getting on the Sunday copy desk's nerves.)

I was out of the office from Thursday through Saturday. And when I came in, my e-mail in-box was crammed with messages from both the Clinton and Obama campaigns. I've been getting e-mails from both campaigns for a while, but I could tell there was a huge increase this past weekend.

I also heard from the exiled former finance minister of Nigeria, who wants my help moving a vast sum of money out of his former homeland. He assures me this deal will make me very wealthy. So if I end up setting aside this journalism thing to retire to the French Riviera with my new trophy wife -- hey, thanks for reading. It's been fun.
