I should probably start posting these here as well. I've been getting e-mails from Phil Avillo's campaign, outlining his positions on various issues.
Phil, as you may know, is a York resident and York College professor challenging U.S. Rep. Todd Platts, R-York County, for the local congressional seat.
As I never tire of pointing out, this is a nonpartisan blog. In light of that, I feel obliged to mention that you can check out Todd's positions on various issues at his Website, which is located at:

Now here's Phil's statement:
AVILLO CALLS FOR DISTRICT-WIDE 'HEALTH CARE TASK FORCE FOR THE FUTURE'
"I will seek input from small businesses, physicians, nurses, federally funded community health leaders, insurance experts and community hospital planners, to develop a district-wide plan to provide quality health care in Cumberland, Adams and York counties."
(Lake Meade, PA) -- Speaking during a debate in Lake Meade today, Congressional Candidate Dr. Phil Avillo said he will establish a tri-county health care task force to address the issues of under served populations and small business health care issues in Cumberland, Adams and York counties.
"There is a lot of human empathy, good will, and innovative thinking in the communities across the 19th Congress District," Avillo commented. "And I intend to tap into such creative community resources when I go to congress next year to make sure that federal resources are flowing to help us address problems right here locally."
Dr. Avillo, who met his wife Linda, a career nurse, while recovering from combat wounds, said he will seek input from small businesses, physicians, nurses, federally funded community health resources, insurance experts and community hospital planners, to develop a district-wide strategy to provide health care to both the under served and stressed communities, as well as small business employers who wish to provide insurance to their employees.
"There's a huge gap among a growing segment of our community in terms of health care delivery, and many stresses in the system, so I'll bring together experts from across every health care segment to find pragmatic solutions to bridge any gaps in the system."
Calling access to heath care services a fundamental human right and one of the most important community challenges facing citizens in the future, Avillo said, "our communities are rooted in empathy for others, particularly our elderly living on fixed incomes, our under served families with children who go without basic health and dental services, and the less fortunate, often forced to use hospital emergency rooms inappropriately for basic treatment."
He also recognized current economic pressures on the system. "Our middle class has been eroding economically over the last eight years, our population is aging, our incomes are down, and many of us are increasingly vulnerable when it comes to health care." Avillo said.
"One of my first priorities in Congress will be to pull together the appropriate community, business, and health care leadership across the district to address what we can do locally to solve these problems moving forward."
Avillo said that he will develop a plan of action through the local task force to operate more strategically on health care issues in Washington, D.C. "As your congressman, I intend to access and focus the resources and opportunities of the federal government to help resolve this problem at the local level." Avillo said. "Not ignore them."
