In crafting this blog, I have three main objectives:
1) To provide a forum where members of the public can express their opinions.
2) To do my part to keep elected officials accountable to the people.
3) To educate, inform and thus empower my readers.
Anyone buy that? Good.
Here are my three real objectives:
1) To keep my editors off my back about updating the blog.
2) To give myself an excuse for goofing around on the Internet at work.
3) To amuse myself.
So I've come up with an idea for a regular feature that will satisfy all of those objectives. We'll see how it goes. But here's my idea... Ready?
THE VIDEO OF THE WEEK!
Hi. My name is Tom, and I'm a Youtube junkie.
Maybe you think of Youtube as simply an Internet feature by and for people who think videos of guys lighting their farts are funny. In actuality, Youtube is also a place where people interested in the most important issues of our day can find ample opportunities for education and discourse ... or so I'm told. I actually fall into the first category.
So I figured I could use this blog as a showcase for videos I've discovered in my meanderings through cyberspace that ostensibly have some connection to politics, but still correspond with my admittedly warped sensibilities.
I'd like to start out with a startling discovery I made recently. In addition to the Secret Service and the press, Barack Obama is apparently being followed by extraterrestrials.
I'm serious. I found not one, but two different videos on Youtube that actually show UFOs streaking through the sky at Obama's public appearances. And until computer technology advances to a point where digital manipulation of images is possible, I guess we'll just have to accept them as proof.
So how should we interpret this revelation?
Well, certain members of the aluminum-foil-hat crowd have been insisting from Day 1 that Obama is actually an advance scout for an army of Muslim invaders waiting to conquer America. Perhaps he is, in fact, an advance scout for a considerably more far-reaching invasion plan.
Conversely, the president's fans will probably speculate that the aliens are hanging around to bask in the warm glow of enlightenment that is the Obama experience. Maybe they'll even ask him to reign as galactic emperor once he's done with the presidency. Beat that, Jimmy Carter!
