Stuff from local senators

Here are a couple of interesting news releases from state Sen. Lloyd Smucker, R-Lancaster, and state Sen. Pat Vance, R-Camp Hill, dealing with -- respectively -- fishing and health care. Hey, I said "interesting," not "thematically consistent."

FROM LLOYD SMUCKER

Senator Lloyd Smucker (R-Lancaster and York) is encouraging everyone to participate in Fish for Free Days this Sunday, June 7, 2009.

Fish for Free Days is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and allows anyone (resident or non-resident) to legally fish without a fishing license on Pennsylvania's waterways on these designated days. All other fishing regulations still apply.

"Pennsylvania has some of the most pristine streams and lakes in the country. Fishing is a great opportunity to bond with family or friends and the Fish for Free Days program is the perfect opening to introduce a friend or relative to the lifelong sport of fishing," Smucker said.

Additional information is available by visiting the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission's website www.fish.state.pa.us or by contacting our Lancaster Office at 717-397-1309, or our York Office at 717-246-7534. FROM PAT VANCE

June 3, 2009

HARRISBURG - Legislation reauthorizing the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4) until 2014 is on its way to the governor's desk after the bill unanimously passed the Senate today, said prime sponsor Sen. Pat Vance (R-Cumberland/York).

The PHC4 collects data from hospitals, freestanding ambulatory surgery centers and some managed care plans. Comparative data is then released to the public so that consumers can make educated health care decisions and providers can evaluate the quality of their services.

"This bill is the result of a bi-partisan effort to see the Council's good work continue," said Vance. "The Legislature, the Administration and PHC4 members and staff worked together, not only to continue, but to enhance the ability to collect and disseminate quality health care data. I think we can look forward to receiving very valuable information in the years to come."

Vance's district includes all of Cumberland County and Carroll, Fairview, Franklin, Monaghan, Warrington and Washington townships and Dillsburg, Franklintown and Wellsville boroughs in York County.
