HARRISBURG, Aug. 25 - State Rep. Eugene DePasquale, D-York, said he has been invited to participate in the Distracted Driving Summit that the U.S. Department of Transportation will hold Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in Washington, D.C.
"I'm honored my work on this critical issue has been recognized," DePasquale said. "I look forward to engaging this group to learn more about distracted driving and its impacts on drivers, as well as the best ways to enforce regulations so we can prevent more accidents and deaths from occurring on our roadways."
DePasquale said the summit will include interactive sessions on key topics relating to the problem of distracted driving, including current research, regulations, technology implications and best practices in enforcement and public outreach.
The summit will provide an opportunity for senior transportation and elected officials, safety advocates, law enforcement representatives, academics and other leaders to work together to prevent distracted driving from becoming a deadly epidemic, DePasquale said.
DePasquale has long been an advocate of eliminating distracted driving practices from the roadways. He has spoken often of its ill-effects and has authored legislation to make texting while driving illegal.
