A couple of organizing events are coming up in support of Democratic primary candidate Barack Obama.

"Basketball for Barack Obama" will take place starting at noon on Saturday at Penn Park, 100 W. College Ave., York.

Also, a meeting of Obama supporters will take place 4 p.m. March 8 at the home of Magdaline Whisler, 220 N. Main St., Jacobus.

I felt kind of bad making the phone call on Friday, but it had to be done for my Monday story.

It was to Mike Johnson, chairman of the York County Democratic Party. I was asking him to comment on the fact that in 2006, his party managed to field seven candidates in state and federal races, and this year they produced only two.

I felt kind of like I might as well be calling to say "Hey Mike, I hear you have a paper cut. I just wanted to let you know I was planning to stop by and squeeze some lemon juice into it."

Still don't understand the difference between "delegates" and "superdelegates" at the Democratic national convention? Come on! I explained the concept in a Feb. 10 story, in prose so lucid and beautiful as to make the very angels weep! But I'll cut you some slack and assume you were out of town that weekend. Besides, I didn't offer you lunch.

So if you still need to know what superdelegates are, stop by a meeting of the York County Federation of Democratic Women at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Spataro’s Restaurant, 1239 Roosevelt Ave., York. Missy Stehr-Wood, regional field organizer for the Democratic National Committee (DNC), will explain the differences. Organizers invite you to show up at noon and have lunch.
