The debate

| | Comments (0)

Whew! I am worn out!

I spent the weekend bustling around, stocking up on bottled water, freeze-dried rations and ammunition, just in case the global economy collapses like a kicked-over Lincoln Logs construction first thing tomorrow morning. I also got a leather jacket like Mel Gibson had in "The Road Warrior." I figure if you're going to forage for survival in a post-apocalyptic world, you might as well look cool doing it.

So. The debate.

Debate Friday

| | Comments (1)

The latest I've seen is that John McCain wants to postpone Friday's debate and focus on the financial crisis.

First the hurricane during the Republican National Convention, now this. As I mentioned in a previous entry during the Republican National Convention, I think the McCain campaign can use that sort of thing to their advantage.

McCain has been trying to present himself as the man with the experience to meet challenges, as opposed to his charasmatic but relatively inexperienced opponent. (A drum that he's been considerably more reluctant to beat since Sarah Palin became his running mate.)

I'm not suggesting any of this was calculated. McCain can't exactly plan a financial crisis, much less a hurricane. Even if you don't support his candidacy, he's not a James Bond villain. I'm just saying that the opportunity to deal with a crisis while the spotlight is on him anyway could certainly benefit his campaign.

Obama visit

As I mentioned in the last couple of entries, Barack Obama was in York County yesterday.

To be honest, I really don't have a heck of a lot to add to my story about the visit. It was one of those visits where the press is kept at arm's length, and I didn't get to talk to him one-on-one. But I didn't mind, because I did get to interview him by phone a little while back (and I duly reported the details on this blog).
