Still swamped

Yep, I'm still working on that big Sunday project. It's going to be awesome! And I'm still chipping away at those campaign stories.

So I just wanted to throw out a quick observation. The Republican National Committee says that the $150,000 spent on clothing for Sarah Palin and her family will be donated to charity once the election is over.

So now you'll know the explanation if you see homeless people walking around in slinky dresses from Saks Fifth Avenue come mid-November.

Well, the gloves were off for last night's debate.

Most of the analysis I've read gives it to Obama, although I've gotta say McCain scored some hits.

I spoke to some people who were at a debate-watching party at the Republican campaign headquarters in Hanover last night. They said that everybody cheered when McCain got in that line to the effect that Obama should have run four years ago if he wanted to run against Bush.

Story on race -- part 2

I wanted to make one point very emphatically in my story that ran on Sunday about race as a factor in the presidential election.

There's nothing inherently racist in opposing Obama's candidacy. The vast majority of local Republicans with whom I've spoken take issue with his policies, or with what they perceive to be his lack of experience.

Story on race

I had a pretty big piece run today about how race might affect the election. That was the concept, anyway, as one of my editors envisioned it.

What I ended up doing was talking to a lot of people around York County about race, and how their feelings about it relate to the presidential election.

It's up to you readers to decide whether or not the resultant story was interesting. But I found some of the insights that county residents shared with me to be quite illuminating -- for better and for worse.
