I spent some time this morning trying to collect the preliminary budget deficits that have been announced by school districts so far for the 2011-12 school year.
Here’s what I’ve got:
Central York: $1.9 million
Dover Area: $2.5 million
Dallastown: $4.4 million
Northeastern: $4.6 million
York City: $15 million
York Suburban: $2.6 million to $3 million
Those numbers are pulled from either stories we’ve written or from information on districts’ websites. Most of those are talking about cuts or tax increases (or both) to make things work.
Doesn’t look like anyone’s going to have an easy time this budget season. Am I missing anyone?

west york?
I haven’t heard for West York yet. But I’ll keep you posted if I do.
It should come as a surprise that the CYSD is going to have a deficit. Just look at the outrageous raises they handed out to their Director of Communications over the past three years. 2008 school year – 11%, 2009 school year – 4% and for the current school year 9%. With the number of individual loosing jobs, taking pay cuts and working reduced hours, these types of raises are irresponsible.
