Charter schools celebrating AYP

A black-tie gala is being held Saturday night to celebrate two charter schools — Lincoln Elementary and Helen Thackston Middle School — that met state “adequate yearly progress” requirements last year.
The event, being held at the Valencia Ballroom, includes remarks from local officials, such as Rep. Eugene DePasquale, York Mayor Kim Bracey, York City School Board President Sam Beard, and Oscar Rossum, board president for Thackston and Lincoln.
The event will also honor Julia Hines Harris, a longtime teacher in York City schools.
Amy Morton, state deputy secretary for elementary and secondary education, is also scheduled to speak.
The event is a fundraiser for the schools.

It’s easy to make AYP when you get to cherry-pick your students.
