On Saturday, some Central York High School students will hold an event aiming to show what beauty means to them.
Kelsey Kierce and Paige Knapp, both juniors at the school, began thinking about the definition of beauty after they found a blog that promoted an unhealthy view of beauty, Kelsey said in an email.
The blog encouraged unhealthy habits to get “perfect” body, she said.
The negative views on beauty in the media can bring women down, she said.
So on Saturday, they’re holding a photo shoot at John Rudy Park with a number of other young women, aimed at showing true beauty.
“We believe that beauty is in everyone,” Kelsey wrote. “This day will be about promoting self-esteem and reminding young women that they are beautiful.”
Anyone is welcome at the event, whether they want to participate or observe, she said. The shoot will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the park.
Paige and some other friends interested in photography will be taking the photos. Afterward, the girls hope to use the photos in some way, whether in a YouTube video, a public service announcement or brochure.
