Good scores earn York City students a chance to win Kindles

Good test scores earned a couple of York City students Kindles recently.

At Wednesday night’s school board meeting, students Garia Kinard and Jacob Dubs were presented with new Kindles.

Supt. Deborah Wortham said that during a morning message she records for students, she challenged students – if they scored proficient or better on their classroom diagnostic tests, she’d put them in a drawing monthly for a new Kindle (which she joked was paid for from the Bank of Chester – her husband).

She was able to give away two Wednesday because Mayor Kim Bracey contributed one, too. School board President Margie Orr offered to present the next one, and five more Kindles are coming from Martin Library, Wortham said.

Wortham’s calling it the “celebrity sweepstakes. ”

“Celebrities near and far will contribute … and we’ll continue to have our drawings,” she said.
