York City approves school police job descriptions

Last night, the York City School Board approved the creation of the positions of school police chief and school police officer, with attached job positions, and voted to move their existing safety and security team into those positions.

The district previously sought and won court approval to turn its security team into a school police unit. The job descriptions include, under the “readiness” heading, that the officers’ equipment will include pepper spray/foam and an “electronic incapacitation device,” which was referred to as a Taser during previous discussions.
