PSSA test windows extended because of the weather

The testing period for the PSSA math, reading and writing assessments has been extended to accommodate for instructional time lost because of the weather, according to the Pennslvania Department of Education.

State police release school safety/security report

Pennsylvania State Police released a report on school safety and security that notes last year’s school shooting in Newtown, Conn., and makes basic recommendations for steps schools can take to improve security or their response to an incident.

Report: More districts charging a fee for sports participation

It’s becoming more common for school districts to ask families to pay a fee for students to participate in athletics, according to a report released by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association last week.

New Hope issues statement about appeal board decision

While I was working on stories about the Common Core, I spotted some local names among those educators participating in state committees that worked on the new state standards. One is Emily Reed, a reading specialist at Dillsburg Elementary School in the Northern York County School District.
