UPDATE: Jaquez Brown was convicted of first-degree murder for the July 20, 2011 shooting death of Anthony Sharkus Wasilewski. He is scheduled for sentencing on Jan. 27, 2014.
CLARIFICATION: Although police and court documents list Brown’s first name as Jacquez, in a police interview Brown spelled his name as Jaquez. Changes have been made to reflect his spelling.
Jaquez Davon Brown, 17, is on trial as an adult for the July 2011 shooting death of Anthony Sharkus Wasilewski, 19.
According to York City Police, Brown, then 15, shot Wasilewski during an argument over a stolen cellphone, fled the scene and disposed of the weapon.
Brown had forced his way in an apartment building at gunpoint, leading to a short standoff with police. As the York County Quick Response Team was about to enter the building, Brown surrendered.
Brown is charged with first- and third-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter.
