Don’t mess with Walmart

Matthew A. Gaspin admitted he didn’t read the fine print.

So, when he got caught shoplifting a TV soundbar from Walmart in West Manheim Township on Aug. 23, 2013, he also got hit with a defiant trespass charge.

It seems that Gaspin, 25, of Gettysburg, had a previous shoplifting charge at a Walmart in Maryland.

Monday in York County court, he told Judge Craig T. Trebilcock that he thought the document he signed then only banned him from that particular Walmart.

It didn’t.

It prohibited him from entering any Walmart for life.

“I should have read it closer,” Gaspin said. “I can’t go into any Walmart in the United States.”

In exchange for his guilty pleas to retail theft and defiant trespass on Monday, Gaspin was sentenced to two years probation and ordered to pay restitution.
