This story in USA Today got me thinking about how normally environmentally conscious folks get a different mindset about conservation when they travel.
I'm as guilty as anyone, but when I took stock of my travel habits and preferences, I see that I am not consistent:
*When I stay in a hotel, I am inclined to take a longer shower than I normally would at home because I'm not paying for the water and to heat it.
*But I always turn out lights that aren't being used and would never think of leaving the lights and/or TV on if I'm not in the room.
*I like the housekeeping staff to make the bed, but I think they should change the sheets only after I leave.
*I'm a big fan of places that practice responsible ecotourism.

Since I got home from Egypt, I've been doing a lot of retrospective thinking about the trip. I hate to admit that one aspect that had escaped my notice was my inattentive attitude toward environmentally-friendly habits. This article raises a true point that I had never really considered..I know I'm guilty to a degree:(
I try really hard to be nice to the earth, but the way the world has gone, it makes it very difficult. I think companies, businesses and corporate America could do more to make being earth-friendly a priority.
Recycle bins in more places would be a great start!
