Unfortunately, a Lancaster hotel made it onto TripAdvisor's 2006 list of the Top 10 dirtiest hotels in the country.
I kind of question the accuracy of the list because I've stayed in some nasty places. But then again, they weren't in this country...
I'm talking bathrooms so tiny the shower sprayed out of the room, nasty bugs, don't-want-to-know stains, etc.

i have one to add from nowheresville, nj, but as we tend to do with bad hotels ... i tried my hardest to forget the name of the place and the entire experience. it worked as i can't recall the name
I stayed at hostel in Airlie Beach Australia... I can't remember the name of it. The mattress on the bed was foam covered in ripped fabric. The mattress was covered in "hair" and other stuff that I don't even know. The bathroom had this tiny little shower, cobwebs, bugs. I had just gotten off a 16 hour bus ride though so I just put down my sheet and went to sleep. I woke up to a voice saying "Get up you lazy bugga"... it was a maintenance man who had come to fix the A/C which was broken. I then noticed how hot the room was... in the summer in the tropics!
