What kind of traveler are you?

image.jpgI came across this Plog Travel Personality Quiz, which can tell you -- based on your responses to a page of questions -- what type of traveler you are.

It was developed by Stanley C. Plog, and, supposedly. the concepts are scientifically validated and based on 40 years of continuous research involving more than 250,000 people.

Like horoscopes and palm readings, I went into the experience optimistic and came away with several nuggets of truth, but a few things were off.

Right on:
*I like a destination to have at least a modest amount of development before I visit (clean hotel, decent food, transportation network) but when souvenir shops, fast-food chains and too many tourists start arriving, I'm off to find a place that has not yet lost its freshness and uniqueness.

*The type of items I purchase on trips to foreign countries are those that the country's artists/artisans specialize in (ex: pottery and silver in Mexico, woven wall hanging in the Ecuadorian Andes) which serve not only as reminders of my trip, but useful or decorative pieces.

Missed the mark:
*The study said I am warming up to the idea of cruising as an affordable and enjoyable vacation. Nope. I have never had a desire to go on a cruise, unless you're talking a few hours on a Mississippi riverboat. Overeating, lying around poolside and sharing a ship with fellow tourists are nowhere in my definition of good travel.

*The study also said I have mixed media habits, combining TV and reading. It said I watch a few TV shows and read the occassional book or popular magazine. I don't have cable, can't operate remote controls to save my life, and can't tell you what the last show was I watched from start to finish. The closest might be an 11 p.m. newscast. Books, on the other hand, I inhale like air, and I subscribe to nearly half a dozen monthly magazines. (I did not even realize it was so many until I counted just now).

Take the quiz and leave a comment with your thoughts on the results!
