Post-vacation funk

| | Comments (3)

Each of the past three days, I have asked myself this question: "Why am I having such a hard time readjusting?"

I was pretty happy and content with my life before going to Argentina, but since my return, I can't seem to get back into things.

Saturday, I thought: "Where are all the people?"

I missed the plazas and streets bustling with people of all ages from late morning to past midnight. I missed having Laura nearby to share our latest interesting discoveries or funny observations. I missed interacting with so many different people during the course of a day and having so many options of where to go and what to do each night.

Here, we move in bubbles. From home to gym, to work, to our errands in big-box stores beached amid seas of macadam. Then back home, maybe to a friend or family member's house. The next day, we repeat. I miss the sense of community found in so many Latin American cities and towns.

I miss the warm weather (it was summer in Argentina) and the yummy, varied food. I miss speaking and hearing Spanish. I miss the music. I miss the way people dress and the busy-yet-laid-back pace of life.

This isn't the first time this has happened. I've gotten cases of homesickness like this after returning from my study abroad in Venezuela, from trips to Spain, Ecuador and Mexico -- even Puerto Rico.

It's not that I don't like life here. The cleanliness and efficiency and order. I do. It's just that I feel like half of me is missing.

I don't know if I'd call it being homesick...since you weren't missing home while on vacation, but rather vacationsick...lol.

Remember, you have another vacation coming up.

i kind of feel the same way... but at least we can sit down when we pee:)
