This sign above the restrooms in the Ohiopyle visitor's center (a former train station -- see photo below) had me totally perplexed.
As I waited my turn in line, I thought about it probably a little too much. How would flushing the toilets in the station restrooms be affected by whether the train was there or not:? Afraid that I wouldn't enjoy the rest of my afternoon without knowing the answer, I had to ask.

The answer wasn't pretty.
Apparently, the sign used to be posted in the trains, not the station. And back then, the trains didn't have holding tanks, so when people flushed, it just went out under the train bathroom onto the ground. And if the train was parked at the station at that time, well, I guess things could get a little smelly and unsanitary.
So, there you have it. Mystery solved.
What silly things like this keep you awake at night wondering?
