Quiet sounds

I wanted to find out where York County residents find peace and escape the chaos of modern life.

Sue Herman of Spring Grove responded with this remedy:

After a busy day or week there isn't anything more relaxing than spending some time with animals.

I am fortunate enough to have a variety of pets to share some quiet time with. The most relaxing time is spent sitting on a hay bale in the little barn we have. No radios, TV, telephone, children, or spouse to interrupt the 'quiet sounds'.

There is an underground spring running into an old bathtub that provides a quiet sound of running water. Add three mustangs munching hay and a cat or two that will crawl up on my lap and request a scratch or two on the head. But again, no noise except the quiet sound of a purr.

Now, with all the quiet sounds in place and my eyes closed, I take a deep breath and relax, the smell of the horses, the hay, and the 'quiet sounds' are my 'peaceful get a way' and it is right at home. No traffic, road rage, just 'quiet sounds'.
