Sunday, friends and I took a bus trip to the Big Apple, which is never shinier than during the holiday season.
It was soggy and chilly and downright miserable weather, but luckily, I had decided, that, at age 31, it was about time I experienced the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular with the legendary Rockettes.
An hour and a half later, I had to admit that it was pretty spectacular. The beautiful sets and costumes, the awesome singing and perfect dancing, the fireworks. Just being in that grand (renovated) theater was something of a treat.
Before the show, we had lunch in Chinatown, at a Philippine restaurant called Cendrillion. Frankly, we picked it because it was the first place we saw that didn't look like either a dump or out of our price range. We were starving and desperate to escape the rain.
It was awesome. It was my first time eating Philippino food, and I was impressed -- except for the hot tea, which I thought tasted a bit like roasted popcorn, without the butter. Our waitress explained it as a cross between Asian and Mexican food. I got a big bowl of rice noodles with shrimp, trout and scallions and polished it off in no time.
The tree at Rockefeller Center hadn't been lit for the season yet, so we missed that. But we got to see some cool window displays and do a little shopping at places like Pearl River, Daffy's and Conway.
