I know the rivalry between York and Lancaster runs deep.
They got a baseball team. We wanted a baseball team. They have a thriving arts district. We're building one.
So what I want to know is why they transform their baseball stadium into an outdoor ice park during the winter months and we don't?
Some say it's because we have an indoor ice arena that is struggling financially.
Well, Lancaster has an indoor ice arena too -- and while I don't know whether it's struggling financially -- I can tell you that skating at an ice arena and skating at an outdoor ice park are two completely different things.
An ice arena is the turf of hockey players and Michelle Kwan wanna-bes. And in York's case, it's not in the heart of the downtown tourist district.
There's something different about flooding an outdoor stadium and letting folks skate the old-fashioned way -- in the fresh, crisp winter air.
And because you wouldn't have to fight hordes of hockey teams, learn-to-skate classes and parents who have had their fill of birthday parties, it just might be a more enjoyable place for the public to skate.
Why do you think the rink at New York City's Rockefeller Center is such a big hit? (OK, I realize it's in downtown Manhattan, but I'm sure that's not the only reason.)
I'd like to hear what you think. Is there room for both an indoor arena and an outdoor ice park in York? Should they use Sovereign Bank stadium for something during the dormant winter months? Leave a comment and share your thoughts.

There is nothing like skating outdoors. That is where the sport started, so bundle up and enjoy the fresh, cold air and the sunshine (or moonlight). An outdoor skate park is a great idea!
