Saturday at Longwood Gardens

IMG_6848-1.jpgYesterday, friends and I spent the afternoon at Longwood Gardens' annual Wine & Jazz festival.

It was my first time at the festival, but not at the gardens.

I had been there a couple of years ago in August and enjoyed an evening fountain show where the fountains are choreographed to change color and spray in time to music.

This time, no dancing fountains, but tons and tons of blooming beds of tulips, climbing wisteria and other spring flowers. It was beautiful and got me in the mood to get outside and do some gardening of my own if the rain ever stops.

That's the neat thing about places like Longwood -- every season is different. I like this section on their Web site that lets you check out what's in bloom and on display when you plan to go.

Where are other good places to check out great displays of flowers and plants?

I've lived back in York Co. for nine years and every year I tell myself I'm going to make the trek to Longwood and still haven't done it.

Have you ever visited the Botannical gardens in Washington? That's another great place.

Actually, I haven't. All those years going to college in DC and I still didn't get to see everything!
