YDR food writer Nicki Lefever and her husband, Nate, contemplated going on another cruise for their October vacation, but decided a camping trip was in order instead. Below is her report:

This entry comes straight from the vacation of YDR photographer Bil Bowden, who is biking the Greater Niagara Circle Route in Ontario. That includes alongside the Welland Canal and above the Niagrara River to the falls.
"Nancy Peterson and I did the loop trail, which is entirely paved and the Welland Canal part, anyway, is nearly flat. We pedaled along with the Blacky, a ship made in China that was on its maiden voyage," Bil writes
"We're headed to Pelee Island Friday, taking the ferry over, and biking. As you can see, the weather was terrific, and there's still plenty of color. Wanted to take advantage of the fair weather, since this is, of course, the Buffalo area."
His travel tips: October/November is a wonderful time to travel It's still comfortable enough to travel outdoors, but without the crowds. Niagara Falls was empty of tourists (not that we spent much time around all the souvenirs anyway).
Many motels have dropped their prices, and gas prices are dropping like a rock. In Ohio, we're looking at 2.19. And the U.S. dollar is finally worth more than the Canadian dollar again.

Jen generously donated me some blog time to share about my weekend camping trip to Ricketts Glen State Park, which is about 30 miles north of Bloomsburg on Route 487..
Sitting here in my cubicle, the camp-fire smell is still in my hair, a few bug bites are a bit itchy and my quad muscles are still sore from a hike to see most of the park's 22 named waterfalls ... but those are my biggest complaints about the weekend.
A couple of friends suggested the park as an ideal spot for camping, and I wasn't let down.

My first occasional guest post comes from co-worker Nicki Stiger of Glen Rock, who honeymooned on a Royal Caribbean Cruise to the Bahamas last month. You probably know her as Nicki Lefever, CheapEats girl, food guru, iced-coffee addict or some such.
Anyway, in this picture she's standing in front of an aquarium that she and her new husband couldn't figure out how to get to.
"We must have been close, because you can see it. We were too stubborn to ask," she writes. "It's a HUGE place worth a peek, but if you aren't a guest there, some areas are restricted."
Her travel tip: If you go to Atlantis, don't be afraid to ask how to get around. We took a taxi from the dock to the resort. When we got there, we just wandered around.
Much as I love to be outside and travel near and far, sometimes that doesn't happen as often as I'd like. My reasons are probably the same as yours:
*Money's tight
*I don't get enough vacation days
*Too busy on the weekends
I'm not a fan of excuses, but the reality is that I haven't been able to get out and play nearly as much as I'd like lately. I don't want you, my dear readers, to suffer for lack of interesting adventures to read about, so I'm going to do something about it.
I'm going to occasionally invite friends and co-workers to send me a snapshot and the scoop from someplace cool they've visited.
It will be kind of like the Wish you were here feature that, by the way, is one of the most popular categories on this blog. (If you've been somewhere and have a picture, what are you waiting for? Send it in and share!)
More adventures + more places + more faces = More posts for you to read, more info you need to know, more ideas of things to do and places to go.
