Two York pastors passed away recently -- the Revs. Paul Diener and Henry G. Springer.
Diener, 79, died Aug. 19 at York Hospital. As a professor at York College, he taught religion, ethics and philosophy for 23 years and chaired the humanities department.
He was pastor of Christ United Methodist Church in York from 1971-76. He served as a missionary in the Philippines with the Board of Global Ministries and taught at Silliman University there. He helped found the York Interfaith Alliance and was past president of York Habitat for Humanity.
Diener earned a doctorate from Temple University and master's degrees from McCormick Theological and United Theological seminaries.
A memorial service is planned for First Presbyterian Church in York 11 a.m. Sept. 13, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. John Morgan, officiating.

The Rev. Henry G. Springer, 97, died Aug. 26 at York Rehabilitation Center-South. He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in York.
A Lutheran pastor, Springer served parishes in Dover, Felton, Biglerville, Tyrone, Harrisburg and Port Royal and several others on an interim basis after his retirement in 1976.
A funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in York.
