A week ago, Deacon Douglas K. Mussey of Good Shepherd Church in Harrisburg was ordained to the Anglican priesthood in Fairfax, Va., by a congregation of breakaway Episcopal parishes who view the denomination as too liberal.
Mussey was among clergy representing six different churches who were ordained Nov. 1 by the Rt. Rev. Martyn Minns, missionary bishop of an Episcopal splinter group called the Convocation of Anglicans in North America.
Mussey, director of finance and development for the networking group American Anglican Council, serves in a voluntary capacity as an associate at Good Shepherd Church -- an Anglican congregation that meets at New Love in Christ Church on Jonestown Road in Harrisburg, a CANA spokeswoman said.
CANA, formed in 2005, is among several former Episcopal entities that have aligned themselves more conservative branches of the Anglican Communion such as the Church of Nigeria. Its long-running disagreements with the Episcopal Church stem from different interpretations of Bible authority, gay relationships and other issues.
Just yesterday, a third Episcopal diocese voted to leave the denomination.
