Bishop Joseph P. McFadden of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg will make his first official visit to York County when he visits St. Rose of Lima School in Jackson Township for a 10 a.m. Mass on Friday.
Students will present the bishop with a St. Rose of Lima T-shirt and a check for the Holy Childhood Association — money raised during a pumpkin-decorating contest and from mission money collected in the classrooms.
McFadden, who was installed as bishop Aug. 18, is expected to visit classrooms following the Mass and perhaps stay for a pizza lunch. The school plans to decorate the altar with flowers from the school’s garden, which grows food that’s donated to nursing homes, food kitchens and serves as a “living” classroom for the children.
Earlier this month, McFadden stopped by Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown to help the school celebrate its 70th anniversary.
