A priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg will be ordained an auxiliary bishop for Pittsburgh by Bishop David A. Zubik at 2 p.m. today in Saint Paul Cathedral in Oakland.
Bishop-elect William J. Waltersheid, 54, has served in the Harrisburg diocese since his ordination in 1992, most recently as secretary for clergy and consecrated life. In Pittsburgh, he’ll assume a similar role.
Bishops expected to attend today’s Mass are retired Pittsburgh Auxiliary Bishop William
J. Winter, Bishop Lawrence E. Brandt of Greensburg, Bishop Joseph P. McFadden of Harrisburg and Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of Providence, a former auxiliary bishop for Pittsburgh.
For the first time, the Diocese of Pittsburgh will video-stream the Mass live. A public reception at Oakland Catholic High School will follow the ordination.
