‘Year of the Bible’ reconsidered

UPDATE: Cohen has asked the House of Representatives to reconsider the Year of the Bible resolution. Read the article here.

Earlier:

Just a quick update to the General Assembly’s Year of the Bible resolution recently passed. I covered this last week here.

Now comes word that lawmakers may “reconsider” this bill. I got this press advisory this morning:

State Rep. Mark Cohen will host a news conference at noon Monday in the Capitol Media Center to discuss reconsideration of H.R. 535, which declares 2012 as the “Year of the Bible” in Pennsylvania.

The state House of Representatives adopted the resolution on Jan. 24.

Approximately 15,000 people have signed an online protest petition urging the House to reconsider the resolution.

Cohen is expected to be joined by the Rev. Sandra L. Strauss, director of public advocacy for the Pennsylvania Council of Churches; and Tim Potts, president of Democracy Rising PA.

So if you’re keeping score at home, not only has the legislature wasted time and good will (not to mention offending those of other beliefs) on a completely ceremonial bill, they need to reconvene and waste more time to undue the nonexistent damage.

Yeah, that sounds about right.
