York City School Supt. Deborah Wortham is among the community leaders who will be honored during the 19th annual African-American Love Feast and Recognition Dinner Feb. 3 at the Holiday Inn Holidome in West Manchester Township.The event, which features food, music and fashions, will be from 2 to 5 p.m.
Others to be honored at this year’s feast are attorney Clarence Allen, Lacontis “Connie” Briscoe, Dr. Gracis Ettiene, Carol Hill-Evans, Juanita Kirkland, Deborah McNeil, Angel Zona Moody, Caroline Smith, Tanoue Sweeney, Lawrence Tyler, Pastor LaFawn Wilson and Kimberly Young.
Tickets for the event are $40 for adults in advance and $45 at the door and $20 for children 12 and under.

Church/Community Service: Mrs. Kirkland is a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church where she humbly serves as the Project Stewart of “The Chronicle Project” a capital campaign/building project. While serving in this capacity, Mrs. Kirkland has been afforded an opportunity to assist with the expansion of the church’s educational services, family services and community outreach.
Mrs. Kirkland is the co-founder of the William Penn Senior High School BT Express Character, Leadership and Responsibility Program. This volunteer initiative provided after school tutorial programs, college visitations, educational/motivational workshops and college scholarships for the School District of the City of York students. She is the co-founder of the William Penn Senior High School Sports Hall of Fame. Under her leadership, approximately $200,000 was raised in support of this community building program.
Mrs. Kirkland has been a lifetime advocate for the educational rights of all students expressively those students with disabilities. Her advocacy extends to parents who have been criticized and labeled as incompetent due to circumstances beyond their cognizance.

Cancer awareness projects – Coordinating, creating and posting four billboards in York City to encourage citizens to go for checkups. Hosted and coordinated auction to benefit the Cancer Society. Brought together local youth to pain birdhouses, delivered them to a York Revolution ballgame and had the birdhouses autographed by the York Revolution baseball team. Sold them at the stadium on Survivor’s Day to raise money for cancer awareness. Took photos of local cancer survivors and created a display in downtown York.
Participated in the Spring Fling at Leg Up Farms providing free photos to children and their families.
Took photos at Christmas Magic of people and their dogs donating all proceeds to Canine Meadows Dog Park.
Took photos of children with Santa for a local Union.
Planned and coordinated a memorable evening for local children to enjoy time with Mr.& Mrs Claus, four elves and Frosty the Snowman. Photographed, printed and provided over 200 free pictures of the children with Santa for families that could not afford to have pictures taken.

Name: Pastor LaFawn Wilson, D.Div., York PA
She has blessed the lives of many for over 39 years. She is one of a few women to have been ordained in the Church of God In Christ, under the leadership of The Bishop O.T. Jones, Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has and does serve for over 30 years in the Evangelistic Ministry. She has also served in Prison Ministry. She is a renowned Women’s Conference Speaker, and Extensive Outreach Street Crusader in many city streets across this country.
She is the Pastor of Shekinah Worship Center, a fast growing inter-city ministry and Dean of the Shekinah Bible Institute where she currently teaches Minister’s Training Classes.
As an outstanding community leader creating Women’s Outreach and Support Programs, The Feed My Sheep Program, and S.T.A.R.S. (A teen counseling program). This ministry of compassion has demonstrated a big heart for suffering humanity and a deep desire to help and serve “all” of the Lord’s people.
It is no wonder that Shekinah Ministries is a unique ministry that has expanded traditional boundaries and seen innumerable victories for the glory of God.
She is the founder of several ministries in North Carolina and Florida; and recently returned to the Pennsylvania area to establish Shekinah Worship Center & Ministries.
