It's been a while since I've seen a kiddie movie in theaters. And no, Harry Potter doesn't count. But after an emotionally and physically draining Thanksgiving weekend visiting friends and family in D.C., I switched plans from seeing the existentially heavy "The Fountain" and instead decided to see the warm and cuddly "Happy Feet" instead.
I have to admit, while skeptical at first, I enjoyed the movie a lot more than I thought I would. The humor was, for the most part, absurd (in a good way), and had just the right dose of drama. Well, maybe too much drama. In fact, for about 10 minutes near the end, I wanted to throw myself off of a glacier because I couldn't possibly see how it could end happy. The finale was a bit of a stretch, but overall, my expectations were still exceeded, and I was happy with myself that I haven't become so cynical in life that I couldn't find entertainment value in singing and tap-dancing penguins.
