Yesterday, I dropped by the Circuit City in Springettsbury Township because a co-worker let me know that people had already started lining up for the PlayStation 3. On Tuesday night. It doesn't come out till Friday. Wow.
Circuit City had already let them know that they were only getting 12 systems in for the launch date, but as of mid afternoon Wednesday, only nine had lined up, so all was kosher.
At least four of the nine folks admitted right away that they had no intentions of keeping the system - they simply plan to turn around and sell it on eBay, where the $600 systems are going for between $1,500-$2,500.
My first inclination is to think, wow, that's very shrewd of them, but if presented with the same opportunity, would I do the same? I mean, it's hard to say no to making about a month's salary by sitting around in a line for a couple of days.
Anyway, one said he was paying off some credit card bills and another said it was going toward school. It's not like they said "I'm hitting up the strip clubs" or anything, so I can't blame them.
Here's the story that was in today's paper.
