As a kid, I grew up in a house of Macs (as in the computer). In high school, I saw that Windows-based PCs were obviously taking over as the majority OS of choice and so I made the switch. When I headed off to college at Penn State as a film major, I made the leap back to the world of Macs and have never looked back. That's the short version, at least.

Now I'm not going to get into the cliche debate about which is better - Windows or Mac (OK, maybe a little, because face it, Macs are better). But regardless, I just picked up a brand new Core 2 Duo Macbook for myself last week. Keep in mind this is Apple's lower end laptop (versus the Macbook Pro) and it's only one year newer than the desktop I'm replacing (a G5 iMac).
I set up a couple simple tests on both my old and new machines just to test the speed for fun. My new low end laptop blew away my 1-year-old mid-range desktop to smithereens. It encoded MP3s about twice as fast and encoded h.264 video three times as fast in real world time. It was bittersweet because on one hand, my new computer freakin' rocks. On the other, it's sad to realize my 1-year-old desktop is obsolete.
My only complaint relates to my plans to use it for work. We have a wireless network here in the office that has a simple WEP password encryption. For whatever reason, my MacBook has been a pain in the cache (get it?) about connecting to it. Even one of our computer gurus hasn't figured out why it doesn't want to connect.
It'll get there.
