So, I got an MP3 player as part of my 2006 "technology resolution."
The resolution was three-pronged: to upgrade my computer, learn to use a scanner, and to enter the world of digital music. I took care of the first two by the end of April, but then the year got away from me and I found myself heading into December with the last part incomplete. I hate not finishing something I start.
So after hours of research and consultations with my tech-savvy friends and co-workers, I decided on a Creative Labs Zen Vision. I ordered it online and it showed up at the office a record two days later!
That was two weeks ago today.
It's still in the box.
The reason? Well, partly, I've been busy. Christmas cards to get in the mail, gifts to buy and wrap, cookies to bake, gatherings to host.Then I got a nasty cold. I don't want to pull it out of the box and have to put it away 10 minutes into reading the user's manual because I have to go do something else. I need time to digest this kind of thing. I want to be able to go step by guided baby step into this scary new territory.
Which brings me to my other reason: I'm kind of scared of the thing, to be honest. What if I do something wrong or break it or mess it up horribly? (I already managed to get some bad viruses on my computer after a friend tried to download anitvirus software -- that was a two-month nightmare I don't want to repeat). What if I can't figure out how to download music or put songs from CDs onto it? What if I lose music? What if I'm not smart enough to figure out this little contraption that kids half my size and intelligence can use?
I'm really looking forward to having my music with me wherever I go -- in the car, at work, at home -- without having to worry which CD I left where. Sometimes I don't listen to my music as much as I'd like just because of logistics. This thing will help me put the music back into my world. If I can only figure it out.....
