"On the Lot"

| | Comments (2)

Jessica Brillhart, the local girl is still on the show. She did a really good job of staying ambiguous when I interviewed her about the outcome of the audition round a few weeks ago.

I waited anxiously until an hour into the show to finally verify that she was still in the running for the $1 million deal with DreamWorks.

Watch Fox tonight at 8 p.m. to see if America liked Brillhart's 1-minute comedy film "...To screw in a light bulb" enough to advance her to the next round. Three of the 18 will be eliminated tonight. Visit www.thelot.com to see old episodes and find out more.

On the boardwalk

Hsy.JPG So, Saturday's the big day.

It's when the most expensive addition to Hersheypark opens to the public.

They call it The Boardwalk at Hersheypark, but it's really more of a miniature water park inside the larger amusement park. No sand, but plenty of water.

Those who visit on opening day will be treated to a plane circling 'round dragging an advertisement for the new attraction -- much like those planes that pass by the shore every afternoon at your favorite beach getaway advertising drink specials, wing specials and the like.

They'll also get free sunscreen. Read all about it at FlipSidePa.com or in this YDR story.

It's not quite the shore, but for being in Central PA, it's not too bad.

Need new music?

There aren't too many perks to being FlipSide Editor, let's just get that out in the opening. So the perks that do exist, I intend to take full advantage.

Umphrey's McGee. A lot of albums come through the office from both up-and-coming and been-around-the-block-a-few-times bands. Take a listen to "Higgins." (Note: The video is from an outdoor concert.)

Did you know Dallastown grad Jess Brillhart was a finalist on Fox's new reality television show "On the Lot"?

Yep, the Brooklyn, N.Y., resident beat out 12,000 other submissions, becoming one of 50 semi-finalists flown to Los Angeles for a two-week audition. The show's premiere airs at 9 tonight immediately after "American Idol."

For a quick bio of the 22-year-old and the show itself, read the story here.

Check out a snippet of her film "Cupid".

I'm serious. She's possessed. Just look at those eyes.

Normally, I wouldn't bother readers with my domestic problems, but I haven't experienced an entire REM-cycle in weeks. I come home from work to find trash cans knocked over, old tissue carcasses strewn about the floor. I can't remember the last time I ate a meal at home that didn't involve shooing Peanut Butter off the table as she tried to lick the butter or steal broccoli from our forks.

Going fishing?

Assistant Features Editor Katy Carpenter and I had some fun reliving our childhoods this morning ...

If your Friday is dragging, we advise that you look to the nearest co-worker and say with a straight face, "Heeeeeere fishy, fishy, fishy, FISHY!!!!"

Hours of entertainment.

Look again

I fully admit that I can be a little behind on the music scene. I usually have to listen to a song or an artist a few times before figuring out if they'll crack into my top favorites list or remain an occasional stand-by.

Regina Spektor. An amazing artist that deserves a lot more credit. You might disagree, but I would describe her as a mix of The Cranberries and Tori Amos ... Along with her own style, of course. I rediscovered her the other day. By that, I mean that I had listened to her before but never connected. For some reason, her words and melodies struck a chord and now she's on my iPod. A fellow blogger posted her video of "Us" months ago ..

City lacks convenience

Last night I realized I needed rolls at 9 p.m. In most cities, I could walk around the corner and for $3, I would have a pack of rolls in hand. A little more expensive than the grocery store, but I have no problems paying extra for convenience.

Well, folks, not in York. I live in the heart of downtown York where nearly everything closes before dinner time. When I forget something to complete my evening meal, I have to walk to my car and drive out of the city. Does anyone else see something wrong with this picture?

Is there a reason why nothing is open past 5 or 6 p.m.?

I know, I know, there are a few Turkey Hills and corner stores, but not close enough to me. If I felt safe enough to walk from the square, it would take me at least three to four blocks to get someplace to buy a pack of rolls after 5 p.m. Unfortunately, that's not something a 20-something female should be doing alone in the dark.

No wonder everyone is abandoning the city for the suburbs. York City isn't very convenient.

That's my future wife there in the center, Regine Chassagne. There have been few times in my life where a musician or band on stage have made me feel like they thought this random stop on a long tour was special for some inexplicable reason, but Arcade Fire did just that for me on Saturday.

My friend Sue and I made the trek out to Upper Darby's Tower Theatre to see the best artist/band to come out of Canada since...(thinks to self:...Alanis, no... Celine, hell no... Bryan Adams, uh-uh... Rush, haha, come on really) ... since ever.
