City lacks convenience

Last night I realized I needed rolls at 9 p.m. In most cities, I could walk around the corner and for $3, I would have a pack of rolls in hand. A little more expensive than the grocery store, but I have no problems paying extra for convenience.

Well, folks, not in York. I live in the heart of downtown York where nearly everything closes before dinner time. When I forget something to complete my evening meal, I have to walk to my car and drive out of the city. Does anyone else see something wrong with this picture?

Is there a reason why nothing is open past 5 or 6 p.m.?

I know, I know, there are a few Turkey Hills and corner stores, but not close enough to me. If I felt safe enough to walk from the square, it would take me at least three to four blocks to get someplace to buy a pack of rolls after 5 p.m. Unfortunately, that's not something a 20-something female should be doing alone in the dark.

No wonder everyone is abandoning the city for the suburbs. York City isn't very convenient.

Personally, this makes you sound lazy. Not saying you are. But from you to drive from the square to a near by turkey hill or walmart, at most would take ten minutes. About the time it'd take you to walk a few blocks. The reason things aren't open late at night down town, is because of the bars and the more possibility of getting robbed. I agree it's not that safe. But the police station is just a few blocks from the square.

The point of my post is to show that because the city is not convenient, many city dwellers are wasting precious natural resources to get in the car and drive to support a mega-store, when we would rather support local businesses.
I'm not lazy at all, quite the opposite really. I mean, if I want to walk rather than drive, that doesn't make me lazy.

Nicki
you are right on.
problem is no one wants to have a store open in the shitty after 5.
would you?
First of all, you would probably be the only paying customer. Second, ask Bon Ton why they moved out of the city over 20 years ago...Along with every other decent store. 5 finger discounts !

BTW
sounds like you need to move out closer to a store thats within 10 feet of your front door.
