Spice up your life...again

| | Comments (0)

spice.jpeg
The Spice Girls were supposed to reunite for Live 8 but that never happened. News broke today that the cheeky British group is getting back together for a world tour at the end of the year. Seriously. The five sassy singers will be stopping in New York City on December 11. Now we can all relive the 90s, fight about which spice is the prettiest and dust off those old CDs. You know you can still sing all the words to "Wannabe," even though you memorized them 10 years ago.

Get it while it's hot

The Plain White T's are coming! The five guys from Chicago will play at the West Shore Hardware Bar in Mechanicsburg at 8 p.m. this Friday. You've probably heard the band's song "Hey There Delilah" on the radio. I've been humming it all week. The single is tearing up the charts and is currently number five on the Billboard Hot 100. The band even made an appearance on MTV's "TRL" yesterday. Tickets to the T's concert on Friday are $10. Catch this act before it gets too big to play bars.

Booty Bling....

| | Comments (0)

I know...I thought the same thing. What the heck is the fashion world doing now?

Booty bling? Are they piercing those cheeks now, too?

Fortunately, it's boots, not butts that a fashion entrepreneur is targeting. The idea of Booty Bling is to dress up a plain pair of boots, thus not having to spend your life savings on a new pair of boots. Just purchase a few "belts" for $29 to $109 a pop and you can change up your look.

I don't know about you, but I don't even spend $29 on a pair of boots let alone a cheesy belt for them. The media info claims that Jessica Simpson, Jessica Alba and Carrie Underwood all use the kitsch.

If you are really interested in purchasing booty bling visit http://www.booty-bling.com. I warn you, it's not a high-fashion Web site.

Unhappyness

I have Netflix and I can't speak highly enough of it. Since I don't have cable, it allows me to sit and watch something without fuzz or interruptions.

My most recent view was "The Pursuit of Happyness."

The movie was the classic success of the underdog. Will Smith plays Chris Gardner, a down-and-out salesman looking for a way to advance himself. It really shows the struggle of lower-class Americans.

I loved the story, but I always ruin it for myself. After I watch a movie on a real person, I always look them up online to see how close the story was. I was really disappointed to see that Gardner was paid $1,000 a month for his internship, when in the movie, it said he was paid nothing. It makes me feel cheated that they tried to make more drama out of an already dramatic situation. Sigh...will Hollywood ever learn?

Best movie ever

The American Film Institute just came out with its list of the 100 greatest films in Hollywood history. Don't hold your breath. "Citizen Kane" came in first again. The movie has held the top spot since 1998. I liked Orson Welles' 1941 classic "Citizen Kane," but "Casablanca," which was third place on this year's list, would be the best movie on my list. What would be the No. 1 film on your list?

Make me laugh

| | Comments (0)

I love to laugh so hard my sides ache, my eyes water and I can't breathe.

It's usually my clown-like little brother or my hilarious step-dad that move me to these measures, but when I am home along a television show occasionally does the trick.

I don't have cable, so I can't turn to the Comedy Channel, but my favorite show "America's Funniest Home Videos" is still on ABC and NBC recently revved up its fifth season of "Last Comic Standing."

I love the comedians. They are hilarious, but the judges have to go.

A city predicament

| | Comments (3)

There have been lots of accusations and arguments flung from one side to the other about York city from it's safety and baseball stadium to it's convenience and management.

One thought, or question I suppose, came to mind the other night on a 6-mile run around downtown York. Is it unfriendly people that make up the city or does the city do it to the people?

It sounds convoluted, but bear with me. On that run, I said hi to nearly everyone I ran by who wasn't already in another conversation of some sort. Do you know how many people said hi back? None.

A new Elvis to groove to

So while I was driving through Maryland yesterday listening to WTMD (89.7) --- the perfect remedy to all the rock/rap/country stations York seems to favor --- I heard this song, that started with simple guitar and a man singing poetry who sounded like a Bob Dylan and Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel) hybrid.

It was the perfect background music for a windows-down summer ride up the interstate.

Lots more online

I've been covering Fox's "On the Lot" since we found out Dallastown grad Jess Brillhart was in the running for a spot on the show. I feel like what the producers show on TV doesn't make me want to tune in each week.

The ratings were low, so they cut the show and changed the format and it makes me want to watch it less. Jess and all of her fellow directors are really talented, but I want to see them behind the scenes. All they show each Tuesday at 8 p.m. is the films they made. They don't let us get to know the directors or what drives them.

Well, I went to http://www.thelot.com and found some of the stuff that didn't make it on TV. I watched Brillhart's reaction when she made it to the final 18 and saw her show off some dance moves with Zach.

It helps me deal with the format a little better, but I'd still like to see America get a glimpse of Jess, her talent and what makes her tick.

Tune in tomorrow to Fox at 8 p.m. as Jess shows her 3-minute short film "The Orchard," that she filmed in Stewartstown earlier this year.

Musical meltdown

Disney's soundtrack to "High School Musical" was the best-selling album of 2006? Say it ain't so. When did this happen? I don't have anything against the movie sensation that swept the pre-teen nation, but I am disturbed that such a wholesome record topped the charts. Is this the end of hip-hop as we know it? This article opened my eyes and ears to the state of the music industry today. Maybe rap will make a quick comeback when Kanye aka “hip-hop’s savior” and 50 Cent drop their new albums.

Two princes

America can't get enough of those dashing chaps from across the pond. NBC's Matt Lauer is the lucky bloke who scored the first U.S. TV interview with Prince William and Prince Harry. Lauer got personal with the royal siblings about the 10th anniversary of their mother's death, which is this August. Double the fun and catch the candid conversation twice on June 18 when it airs on "Today" and "Dateline NBC." It should be a captivating segment. To read more click here.

Kitty crack

| | Comments (1)

KittyPointer1.jpgMy vet tells me it's OK. It won't hurt her.

But I'm not so sure.

A couple of months ago, I picked up a $6 laser pointer after someone mentioned it makes a great toy for cats and dogs.

The very first time I shined the little red dot on the floor, Kharma was hooked.

I've only played it with her two or three times because I fear it somehow messes with her mind.

I mean, I'll sit down at my computer desk to do something on my laptop and she's right there at my feet, crying and darting her kitty eyes from floor to wall, waiting for the dot to appear.

NeedsFix.jpgShe remembers.

She also knows that I keep the thing next to the laptop and reaches up to try to get it herself when I refuse to take it out and play (see photo).

It drives her crazy, but she loves it.

I think she's spent more time thinking about how to get me to play it with her than she has spent chasing the dot.

I'm convinced. Catnip has nothing on the little red dot.

R-rated movies

I can recall as a teenager trying to sneek into R-rated movies while trying to evade-ever vigilant theater ushers. My friends and I had some success, but we were told to leave more often than not.

Last Sunday, my wife and I went to see the new romantic comedy, "Knocked Up." The movie was funny, but what happend inside the theater a few minutes before the film ran was the real entertainment.

It seems that a couple of 16-year-old girls paid their way into the movie, ignoring the fact that they were underage for such fair. About two minutes before the last of what seemed like 24 hours of previews, a stern-looking usher armed with a flashlight marched into the theater, demanding that the girls display their identifications for age inspection.

My co-worker Jackie (of Today's Mail blog fame)
just forwarded a link to this recent skit from "The Tonight Show" and it is truly hysterical. Check it out!

I love myself some Will Ferrell. So it's always nice when people, recognizing my inability to focus on any task for more than 30 seconds, e-mail me links to this:

Run, don't walk, to 'Knocked Up'

| | Comments (2)

Alright, so I don't have a lot of time right now, but I just had to get on here to tell everyone 18 and older to go see "Knocked Up" as soon as possible. My husband and I saw it last night, and it was simply hilarious. I haven't laughed that often throughout an entire movie in a very long time.

Grab late-night grub

| | Comments (0)

Sometimes I get so busy in the evenings that I am still out running errands until 10 p.m. By that time, I am really hungry.

Last night, I found myself driving from Lancaster between 9:30 and 10:20 p.m. thinking the whole drive what I was going to do about dinner. I debated just going home and having a bowl of cereal, but that didn't sound like dinner.

I try to think of new places to try, but not much is open at 10 p.m. so I always settle on Sheetz. They are every fast food joint rolled into one convenient store. They have everything - salads, toasted subs, cold subs, quesadillas, pizza, panninis, burgers, fries, mac and cheese. When you order, you don't even have to talk to anyone, all your selections are right in front of you on the Made-to-order touch screen.
