R-rated movies

I can recall as a teenager trying to sneek into R-rated movies while trying to evade-ever vigilant theater ushers. My friends and I had some success, but we were told to leave more often than not.

Last Sunday, my wife and I went to see the new romantic comedy, "Knocked Up." The movie was funny, but what happend inside the theater a few minutes before the film ran was the real entertainment.

It seems that a couple of 16-year-old girls paid their way into the movie, ignoring the fact that they were underage for such fair. About two minutes before the last of what seemed like 24 hours of previews, a stern-looking usher armed with a flashlight marched into the theater, demanding that the girls display their identifications for age inspection.

I turned to my wife and commented that they were 16 and that there was no harm in watching this harmless movie. Within seconds, the usher announced that the girls were 16 years old and had to leave the theater.

"They better get their money back," I said to my wife, and the giggling girls walked out the door with the usher in tow. Two hours later, I had a change of heart. The movie was bit raunchy and included many references to drug use.

Maybe its my age talking, but I agreed with the usher that "Knocked Up" was not the best movie for children. I have a lot to learn before I become a dad. Still, I'm happy that I've managed to hold on to a bit of my teenage rebellious streak.

I have to agree that there's something about the humor of "Knocked Up" that does seem inappropriate for anyone under 18. I have a 16-year-old niece and I wouldn't be comfortable with her watching this movie, even though I loved it myself.
