Not-so-happy endings

| | Comments (2)

I am a sucker for romantic comedies where the unlikely couple ends up together.

But I've recently seen two movies that refreshingly had an unpredictable ending I wasn't expecting. "Prime" (Uma Thurman dates the 23-year-old son of her psychologist Meryl Streep) and "The Breakup" (Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn go through separating a household).

Do you know of any other movies that step out of the box to show a little more reality, rather than fairy tale?

"In Good Company" is a perfect example of that, where Scarlett Johansson's character dates her father's (Dennis Quaid) younger boss (Topher Grace). It's funny and sad, and feels extremely real.

Two that come to my mind right away are "The Family Stone" and "The Notebook," both of which I just realized feature Rachel McAdams. They are great stories with bittersweet endings - and my husband liked them a lot too!
