Movies that make you cry

Movies don't usually make me cry. I'm sensitive, but my brain makes the connection that the characters are just actors.fog.jpg

But, last night when I watched "House of Sand and Fog" from 2003, I cried like a hysterical accident victim.

The story follows Kathy (played by Jennifer Connelly) who loses the house her father left her. The house is bought by an ex-Iranian colonel (Ben Kingsley), who sees the house as the American dream for his family.

From the very beginning everything about the story is unfair, but it speaks to so many issues that were just too deep not to cry.

I am curious about other movies that makes people cry. I think I'd like to stay away from them.

Hmm, let's see ... "The Notebook" is at the top of my list. I bawled for at least 30 minutes after watching it the first time ... I just couldn't stop putting my husband and I in their position. I watched it again about a year later and still cried. Aside from that, pretty much all animated Disney movies get to me. Oh, and I remember that "Fievel/American Dream" movie that I saw when I was 5 pretty much traumatized me for life.

Ahh, yes The Notebook. I teared up at that one, too. The first time I watched The Little Mermaid (it was a version before the Disney version) I sobbed because she died.

I cried all through "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King." I know, I know it's an action movie. I just felt really bad for Frodo. Also, "The Pursuit of Happyness" and "Little Miss Sunshine." It'd probably be shorter to just list the movies I haven't cried in.

I read the book "House of Sand and Fog" before I saw the movie, so I knew what was going to happen, but I still cried. I also cried at the end of the book "A Mighty Heart," so it's a safe bet I'll cry during the movie version. "Because I Said So" and "The Family Stone" are two recent movies that made me cry.

"Forest Gump." Does it to me very time.
More recently, the excellent film "Away From Her." Alzheimer's story. Enough said.
