What would your va-jay-jay say?

Thursday night Nicki Lefever and I went to check out "The Vagina Monologues" at York Little Theatre. Nicki had seen it twice before, but it was my first time. As I sat in the black-box theatre, surrounded by older women and a few brave men, I found myself a little nervous about how the audience would react to the racy subject matter. We were in South Central Pennsylvania, after all.

The monologues were laugh-out-loud funny and thought provoking by turn. From childbirth and rape to sex and menstruation, no "down there" subject was left out. The full range of slang words for vagina were said, yelled and even chanted at times. Overall, the play felt liberating, and it seemed like everyone in the audience had a good time. It's exciting to see that the YLT is not afraid to tackle a production of this caliber and subject matter. It's also exciting to hear that the show is sold out for the rest of its run.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I am starting to feel like a "Vagina Monologues" expert after seeing it three times, but it's one of those shows that you missed something before or you forgot what you saw. It's just hilarious. I was laughing so hard a few times that I was crying. It takes a brave woman to get on stage and rant and rave about vaginas. It's a show I could see over and over. Too bad it's sold out for its run at YLT.

Thank you so much! The show was a blast to put on, and liberating and transforming for those of us in the cast as well. We had simply the best director and cast in the world (the best I have ever had). I seriously thank you for coming to see us, and for being a part of the transformation.
