For the past 3.5 years that I was a downtown York resident, I took for granted what food was a few footsteps away. Since our office moved out of the city, I haven't spent as much time there, even though it was where I laid my head. Until this weekend.
Sad to say, it was my last weekend living in York, and I felt like I had to cram a lot into a little. All alone Friday after work, I walked around the corner to Keo Asian Restaurant, 15 S. George St. I waited so long for a sushi restaurant in the city and it took me weeks to test it out. After a small seaweed salad, I had a dancing dragon roll that was a blend of so many ingredients, I didn't know how to handle the flavor explosion. My bill was nearly $15 with tip.
In the evening, I toured a few city homes on the York Young Professionals City Home Tour. It ended with a reception at The Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center where Samuel's Cafe had a spread that included lobster ravioli, sausage stuffed mushrooms and some crazy-good desserts!
Saturday was a day at Central Market House in York. I started Saturday morning off with a cream-filled long john from Maple Donuts because after the move there isn't a Maple Donuts for miles, let alone outside my door. I'll miss the lady who knows how I take my coffee and never charges me full price because she sees me so often she thinks I work at market.
After packing a few boxes and repeatedly reassuring my cats that I wasn't leaving them behind, I had a turkey sub from Conrad's Deli and Pebbles on the Beach ice cream from the Hope Acres stand.
I sadly waved goodbye to rolling out of bed Saturday mornings for Mezzogiorno's killer breakfast paninis and my frequent trips to Conrad's Tuesday mornings when I forgot to go to the store for milk.
I'll just be sure to come back and visit but it won't be the same.
